“AT ALL TIMES”
“At all times” I
will bless the Lord—yea, even in the Spring— Which gladness gives to many hearts, but me dismay doth bring. Though nature’s recreation time to me no change afford, Yet, garb’d with grief, with sadness girt, still will I bless the Lord.
Not mine to gather strength beside the foamfleck’d sapphire sea, Nor ramble through the forest glade, nor rest upon the lea; Yet, these are joys to others giv’n—them sweet refreshment bring: To Thee, the Holy and All-Wise, I will give thanks and sing.
Full-bitter is the cup I drink, but let me not mistake The Loving Hand that filleth it, nor e’er His ways forsake: While though distress and bitterness my portion still shall be, Yet, let not Marah be my name when I my Lord shall see.
Full well Thou knowest, O my Lord, how oft my spirit faints, But true to Thine unbroken word, Thou wilt hear my complaints: And I, to Thee, with gladsomeness, my daily song will raise, And offer the All-Merciful my “sacrifice of praise.”
